Phlobaphen

Phlobaphene sind chemisch kaum definierte Produkte. Sie entstehen bei der Lagerung von Gerbstoffen (oligomere Proanthocyanidine) und Flavonolen und werden auch Gerbstoffrote genannt. Ihre Färbung ist oft rot bis braunschwarz (Kork, fermentierter Tee); sie sind deshalb für die rotbraune Färbung zahlreicher Drogen verantwortlich. Ihre Polymerisation wird durch oxidierende Enzyme und Chinone beschleunigt. Sie sind wasserunlöslich und entstehen bei der Trocknung von Rindendrogen. Phlobaphene finden sich auch als Einlagerung im Phellom von Pflanzen, was diesen somit als Schutz vor Mikroorganismen dient.

Vorkommen: Ratanhiawurzel, Tormentillawurzel, Zimtrinde, Nelkenblüte, Colasamen
