Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (Abkürzung: RXTE) ist ein orbitales Röntgen-Teleskop, das für die Beobachtung von schnellveränderlichen hochenergetischen Röntgenquellen wie Schwarzen Löchern, Neutronensternen, Röntgen-Pulsaren oder sonstige Röntgenausbrüchen installiert wird. Das Teleskop wurde am 30. Dezember 1995 von einer Delta II Rakete auf eine niedrige Umlaufbahn gebracht und funktioniert bis heute. Es wurde nach dem Astronomen Bruno Rossi benannt.
