Robert Pigot

Sir Robert Pigot, Baronet (* 1720 in Stafford, Staffordshire, England; † 1. August 1796 ebenda) war ein britischer Offizier im Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieg.

Robert Pigot war 1758 Major im 10. Infanterie-Regiment. 1764 war er Oberstleutnant. Von 1769 bis 1775 befehligte er das South Staffordshire Infanterie-Regiment. Am 17. Juni 1775 kommandierte Robert Pigot die linke Flanke des britischen Angriffs in der Schlacht von Bunker Hill. Am 9. Juli war er Oberst im 55. (Westmoreland) Infanterie-Regiment. Er wurde am 12. November 1775 als Auszeichnung für seine Tapferkeit in der Schlacht von Bunker Hill zum Oberst des 38. (1. Staffordshire) Infanterie-Regimentes ernannt. 1777 wurde er zum Generalmajor befördert. 1778 wurde Pigot Kommandeur von Rhode Island und zum Generalleutnant befördert. In der Schlacht von Newport am 29. August 1778 stand er mit 3.000 Mann amerikanischen Truppen von 5.000 Mann unter General John Sullivan gegenüber. 1783 erhielt er den Titel Sir Robert, Baronet. Am 8. Februar 1796 quittierte er seinen Dienst und starb am 1. August desselben Jahres.

Zwei seiner Brüder waren ebenfalls berühmte Persönlichkeiten: Sir George Pigot, Baron (* 4. März 1719; † 9. Mai 1777) war Gouverneur von Madras in Indien und Hugh Pigot (* 1721; † 1792) war Admiral und Oberkommandierender von Westindien.
