Susruta

Sushruta (auch Susruta; सुश्रुत, Suśruta) oder einfach nur Der Chirurg genannt, war ein indischer Arzt.

Sushruta lebte wahrscheinlich im frühen 6. Jh. v. Chr.. Er beschrieb etwa 300 Operationen und 121 Operationsinstrumente. Unter den Operationen, die er beschrieben hat, sind Star, Bruch, Steinschnitt, Kaiserschnitt etc. Instrumente die er beschrieb sind u. a. Sonden, Zangen, Lanzetten, und Katheter. Er übertrug auch Haut von anderen Körperstellen auf ein beschädigtes Ohr und entwickelte die Nasenplastik.

Das Buch Susruta Samhita stammt vermutlich aus der Zeit um 350 n. Chr. und geht auf Susruta zurück. Es wurde vor dem Ende des 8. Jh. ins Arabische übersetzt. Ins Lateinische wurde es von Hassler und ins Deutsche von Ullers übersetzt.
