Bartholomew of England

Bartholomaeus Anglicus (auch: Bartholomaeus de Glanvilla, Bartholomew of England, Bartholomew the Englishman; * um 1190; † nach 1250) war ein franziskanischer Scholastiker und Autor von De proprietatibus rerum, einem Vorläufer der Enzyklopädie und einem der ersten Nachschlagewerke des Mittelalters, das auch die Pflanzenwelt berücksichtigt.

Leben

Über Bartholomaeus' Leben ist nicht viel bekannt. 1230 war er wohl als "baccalaureus biblicus" in Paris in der Lehre tätig, ein Jahr später ging er als Lektor nach Magdeburg.
