Kasai-Occidental (dt. Westkasai) ist eine Provinz der Demokratischen Republik Kongo mit der Hauptstadt Kananga.

Geografie

Die Provinz liegt im Süden des Landes und grenzt im Norden an die Provinz Équateur, im Südwesten an Angola, im Südosten an die Provinz Katanga, im Westen an die Provinz Bandundu und im Osten an die Provinz Kasai-Oriental.

Geschichte

Die Provinz entstand 1966 durch die Zusammenlegung der Provinzen Lulabourg, Unité-Kasaienne und Teilen der Provinz Sankuru.

geplante Auflösung

Mit der Verabschiedung einer neuen Verfassung im Mai 2005 soll der Kongo neugegliedert werden. Kasai-Occidental soll in zwei neue Provinzen aufgeteilt werden:

Kasaï mit der Hauptstadt Luebo
Lulua mit der Hauptstadt Kananga
