Women’s International Zionist Organisation (WIZO) ist eine international tätige, karitative Frauenorganisation mit Verbänden in 50 Ländern und etwa 250.000 Mitgliedern.
Über WIZO
WIZO ist die größte internationale Frauenorganisation der Welt mit 250.000 Mitgliedern in 50 Ländern und 800 Institutionen. Sie nimmt sich in zahlreichen Projekten der Frauen, Kinder und älteren Menschen in Israel an, und zwar ungeachtet deren Nationalität und Religionszugehörigkeit.
WIZO hat sich von ihren bescheidenen Anfängen 1920 zu einer treibenden Kraft im Bemühen um die Minderung der Not und die Förderung pädagogischer und sozialer Bedürfnisse aller Kinder, Frauen und Senioren in Israel entwickelt. Die Organisation ermöglicht manchmal sogar lebensrettende Hilfe für die Menschen in Israel, mit Hilfe von Spenden der Freunde auf der ganzen Welt.
WIZO ist von den Vereinten Nationen als nichtstaatliche Organisation anerkannt und hat einen Konsultativstatus im Wirtschafts- und Sozialrat (ECOSOC) der Vereinten Nationen und in der UNICEF.
Geschichte
Die WIZO wurde 1920 in Großbritannien durch Rebecca Sieff, Dr. Vera Weizmann, Edith Eder, Romana Goodman und Henrietta Irwell gegründet. Ziel war es ursprünglich ein Dachverband für alle zionistischen Frauen der Welt zu sein. 1949 wurde der Hauptsitz von London nach Israel verlegt.

die über 22.000 Jugendlichen aus problematischen Familien zur Verfügung stehen
für misshandelte Frauen und ihre Kinder
- 80 WIZO Zentren für Senioren und 1 Altersheim
in denen kulturelle und soziale Veranstaltungen für Senioren angeboten werden
