Mondsichelsee

Der Mondsichelsee bzw. die Mondsichelquelle (chin. 月牙泉, Yuèyá Quán „Mondsichelquelle“) ist ein halbmondförmiger See in einer 5 km südöstlich der Stadt Dunhuang in der chinesischen Provinz Gansu befindlichen Oase, die von hohen Dünen umgeben ist. Seit der Qing-Dynastie wird er Yueyaquan („Mondsichelquelle“) genannt. Unmittelbar westlich des Sees befinden sich die aus Sandsteinfelsen gehauenen Mogao-Grotten, die für ihre Malereien und bedeutenden Funde alter buddhistischer Handschriften berühmt sind.
