Assembly Rules

Der Begriff Assembly Rules umfasst eine ökologische Theorie des amerikanischen Biogeographen Jared Diamond. Assembly Rules kann in etwa als "Regeln der Aufstellung" übertragen werden. Diamond beschreibt damit ein regelbasiertes Verständnis von Lebensgemeinschaften, in dem es zu einem Wettbewerb um biotische Ressourcen kommt. Dieser Ansatz kann statistisch nachgewiesen werden und zum Beispiel mit der Null-Hypothese getestet und hinterfragt werden.[1]

Danach ist z.B. eine Regel: "Die verbotene Kombinationen von Spezies". So schließt zum Beispiel das Vorkommen des Trauerhonigfressers (Certhionyx niger) das des Seidennektarvogels (Myzomela pammelaena) aus. Der Trauerhonigfresser lebt auf 23 von 41 untersuchten Inseln des papua-neuguineischen Bismarck-Archipels, auf den übrigen 14 Inseln lebt der Seidennektarvogel. Beide Vögel weisen physiologisch viele ähnliche Eigenschaften auf (u.a. Größe) und haben beide einen bogenförmigen Schnabel, um Nektar zu trinken. Diamond fand heraus, dass die Konkurrenzeffekte die Verbreitung beeinflussten. Diamonds Hypothese war, dass die Konkurrenz und nicht regellose Immigration die treibende Kraft hinter der Verteilung der Spezies auf den Inseln war.

Seit den 1990er Jahren werden Assembly Rules zunehmend im Naturschutz eingesetzt.
