Chilling effect ist ein Begriff aus dem anglo-amerikanischen Recht und beschreibt eine Einschränkung der Meinungsfreiheit durch Selbstzensur aufgrund befürchteter juristischer Konsequenzen. Der deutsche Spruch zu diesem Phänomen lautet "Schere im Kopf".
