Daniel S. Schechter

Daniel Scott Schechter (* 1962 in den USA) ist ein US-amerikanischer Psychiater, Psychoanalytiker und Forscher, der sich auf Kinderpsychiatrie spezialisiert hat. Er leitet den Liaisondienst der Pädiatrischen Psychiatrie am Universitätsspital Genf[1] und ist zugleich Dozent an der medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Genf und der Columbia University in New York.[2]

Leben

Schechter studierte an der Columbia University, wo er 1983 seinen Bachelor of Arts und 1987 seinen Master of Arts erhielt. Sein Medizinstudium schloss er 1991 mit dem M.D. ab. Schechter spezialisierte sich auf Kinderpsychiatrie, posttraumatische Belastungsstörungen und Psychotherapie. Er ist bekannt für seine Artikel über Gewaltbedingte Traumata in der Generationenfolge, und das Trauma der Kinder, die den 11. September 2001 erlebt haben.[3][4][5][6] Er analysierte wie die Trennungsangst von Kleinkindern eine starke posttraumatische Belastungswirkung bei den traumatisierten Eltern bringen könnte.[7][8][9]

Sein neues Buch auf Englisch, das mit Carol Worthman, Paul Plotsky, und Constance Cummings herausgegeben ist, heißt „Formative Experiences: The Interaction of Caregiving, Culture, and Developmental Psychobiology“ (Cambridge University Press, 2010).

Für seine Arbeit erhielt er mehrere Auszeichnungen, darunter 2001 den American Academy of Child & Adolescent Research Award, 2009 und 2005 den Exceptional Contribution to Research Award der Internationalen Psychoanalytischen Gesellschaft, einen NIMH Research Career Award, 2007 den Pierre Janet Paper Prize von der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Trauma und Dissoziation, und 2010 den Norbert and Charlotte Rieger Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Award von der American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
