Die German Scholars Organization (GSO) ist eine gemeinnützige Organisation, die versucht, für deutsche Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler im Ausland, Möglichkeiten zu finden, sie an Wissenschafts- und Wirtschaftsstandort Deutschland zurückzuholen. Ihr Angebot ist der Kontakt zu deutschen Unternehmen und Universitäten, um ihnen dort Berufsangebote aufzuzeigen. Der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit liegt derzeit in Amerika und Kanada, da dort die meisten forschen. Die GSO unterhält dazu Büros in Berlin und San Francisco. Gefördert wird die GSO durch die Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung. Zurzeit sind weltweit ca. 3500 Wissenschaftler registriert. Der derzeitige Präsident ist Eicke Weber, der Leiter des Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme in Freiburg.
Die Angebote sind
- Die internetgebundene GSO-Jobbörse, die Wissenschaftler im Ausland mit Arbeitgebern in Deutschland zusammenbringt.
- Messen und Workshops, die aktuelle Informationen zu Karrieremöglichkeiten in Deutschland bieten.
- Ein Förderprogramm, welches seit September 2006 zusammen mit der Krupp-Stiftung das Förderprogramm „Rückkehr deutscher Wissenschaftler aus dem Ausland“ umsetzt. Ziel dieser Aktion ist die Unterstützung deutscher Hochschulen bei der Berufung deutscher Forscher aus dem Ausland.
Die Zielgruppe sind deutsche Graduierte, etablierte Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler sowie Wissenschaftler, die ihre Doktorarbeit gerade fertiggestellt haben (Postdocs).
