Charles Henry Churchill

Colonel Charles Henry Spencer-Churchill (* 27. Mai 1828; † 3. April 1877) war ein britischer Offizier und Diplomat und britischer Konsul in Syrien.

Leben

Er war der Enkel von George Spencer-Churchill, 5. Duke of Marlborough. Seine Eltern waren Lord Charles Spencer-Churchill und Ethelred Catherine Benett.

Churchill forderte schon in den 1840er Jahren einen jüdischen Staat Israel in Palästina. Er verfasste mehrere bedeutende (kultur-)historische Werke über den Nahen Osten, darunter eine umfangreiche Biografie Abd el-Kaders, den er während dessen Exil in Damaskus kennengelernt hatte.

Er heiratete am 30. Oktober 1862 Rosalie Lowther.
