Salt ’n’ Pepa

Salt ’n’ Pepa (auch Salt-n-Pepa) sind eine US-amerikanische R&B- und Hip-Hop-Band (Rap). Die Mitglieder sind Cheryl James (Salt, * 28. März 1967), Sandy Denton (Pepa, * 9. November 1965) und Deidre Roper (DJ Spinderella, * 3. August 1969). Ihr größter Erfolg wurde die Single Let's Talk About Sex (1991), eine weltweite Nummer 1.

Die erste Veröffentlichung des Trios war, noch unter dem Namen „Supernature“, die Single The Showstoppa (Is Stupid Fresh), eine Antwort auf Doug E. Freshs The Show.^[1] Die Single kam auf Platz 48 der Billboard R&B-Charts. 1988 war Push It ein internationaler Hit. Weitere erfolgreiche Singles waren auch You Showed Me (1992), Shoop (1993) und Whatta Man (1994), ein Song, den sie zusammen mit En Vogue einsangen. Für None of Your Business (1994) erhielt das Trio 1995 einen Grammy in der Kategorie „Best Rap Performance“.

Nach ihrer offiziellen Auflösung 2002 trat die Band im September 2005 erstmals wieder zusammen auf und trug Whatta Man zusammen mit En Vogue vor.

Seit Oktober 2007 haben Salt und Pepa eine Reality Show, die im amerikanischen Fernsehsender VH1 ausgestrahlt wird. DJ Spinderella nimmt nicht an der Sendung teil.^[2]
