Der Ausdruck Class A bezeichnet sichtbare (Freiform)-Flächen im Exterieur- und Interieur-Bereich der Produktentwicklung. Hauptsächlich wird er in der Automobilentwicklung verwendet. Mit Class A bezeichnete Flächen weisen meistens Krümmungsstetigkeit auf.

Die Kategorisierung von Oberflächen in Class A, "Class B" und "Class C" wird vorgenommen, um die Flächen hinsichtlich ihres Verwendungszweckes einordnen zu können.

Unter "Class B"-Flächen versteht man die im Normalfall für den Benutzer nicht sichtbaren Innenflächen von Class A-Flächen sowie die tragende Struktur des Objektes. "Class C"-Flächen schließlich sind die Flächen, die nur temporär zur Werkzeugherstellung genutzt werden, bzw. die Oberflächen der Werkzeuge, die zur Erzeugung von Class A und "Class B"-Flächen genutzt werden (z. B. die formgebenden Oberflächen von Tiefziehwerkzeugen).
