The Crown war eine schwedische Thrash/Death-Metal-Band aus Trollhättan.

Bandgeschichte

The Crown wurde 1990 als Crown of Thorns von Johan Lindstrand (Gesang), Marko Tervonen (Gitarre), Robert Österberg (Gitarre), Magnus Olsfelt (Bass) und Janne Saarenpää (Schlagzeug) gegründet. Noch bevor das zweite Demo Forget the Light eingespielt wurde, verließ Gitarrist Robert Österberg die Band und wurde durch Marcus Sunesson ersetzt.

Die Band unterschrieb schließlich bei Black Sun Records und veröffentlichte The Burning (1995) und Eternal Death (1997). Die Umbenennung in The Crown erfolgte gezwungenermaßen 1998, da sich eine US-amerikanische Band bereits die Rechte für dem Namen Crown of Thorns gesichert hatte.

Unter dem neuen Namen wechselte die Band zu Metal Blade und brachte mit Hell Is Here 1999 ihr drittes Studioalbum heraus. Nach der Veröffentlichung des vierten Albums Deathrace King (2000) tourten The Crown mit unter anderem Cannibal Corpse, Krisiun und Morbid Angel in Europa und Nordamerika.

Vor den Aufnahmen zu Crowned In Terror, das 2002 erschien, stieg Johan Lindstrand aus und wurde durch den ehemaligen At the Gates-Sänger Tomas Lindberg ersetzt. Nach nur einem Album und einer Tour durch die USA überließ Lindberg jedoch den Platz am Mikrophon wieder Johan Lindstrand, mit dem auch 2003 das letzte reguläre Studioalbum Possessed 13 aufgenommen wurde.

Kurz nach der Fertigstellung von Crowned Unholy, einer Neuversion des Albums Crowned In Terror, gab die Band am 7. März 2004 ihre Auflösung bekannt. Der Gesang auf Crowned Unholy wurde dabei von Johan Lindstrand eingesungen und auch die Bassspuren wurden neu eingespielt. Das Album wurde damit neu gemastert und gemixt. Zusätzlich wurde eine Bonus-DVD beigelegt, die ein komplettes Konzert in Karlsruhe mit sich bringt.

Die letzte Veröffentlichung der Band stellt die DVD 14 Years of No Tomorrow dar, die 2006 auf den Markt kam.

Nicht lange nach der Auflösung von The Crown gründete Johan Lindstrand eine neue Band namens One Man Army and the Undead Quartet, die bis jetzt drei Full-Lenght-Alben veröffentlichte.

Stil

Die Musik von The Crown ist eine aggressive Mischung aus einer melodischeren Variante des Death-Metal und dem Thrash. Die Texte handeln, wie in den Genres nicht unüblich, hauptsächlich von Satanismus und Rebellion.
