Das niederländische Unternehmen Koninklijke DSM N.V. ist ein international tätiger Konzern der chemischen Industrie mit Hauptsitz in Heerlen, Niederlande.

DSM (Dutch State Mines/De Staats Mijnen) wurde 1902 als Bergbauunternehmen gegründet. Im Laufe der Jahre orientierte sich das Unternehmen nicht nur im Kohleabbau, sondern auch auf dem Chemiesektor. In den 60ern des 20. Jahrhunderts traf die niederländische Regierung die Entscheidung, alle staatseigenen Kohlenbergwerke zu schließen. 1975 wurde dann die letzte staatseigene Mine geschlossen. Die Regierung förderte die Chemiestandorte, um Jobs für die arbeitslosen Bergleute zu schaffen.

Das Unternehmen hat über 24.000 Beschäftigte. Es besitzt Werke in den Niederlanden, Schweden, den Vereinigten Staaten, der Schweiz, Österreich, Belgien, Großbritannien, Kanada, Brasilien, Deutschland, Italien, Spanien, China und Australien. DSM hat insgesamt 270 Produktionsstandorte und Büros weltweit und setzt rund 8,2 Milliarden Euro jährlich um (2005) mit einem Gewinn von 527 Millionen Euro.

1989 wurde DSM privatisiert. Im Jahre 2002 verkaufte das Unternehmen seine Erdölabteilung an das saudi-arabische Unternehmen SABIC. Ebenso erwarb es den Unternehmensbereich Nahrungsergänzung und -zusatzstoffe von dem Unternehmen Hoffmann-La Roche.
