Das Globussyndrom (lat. Globus hystericus) ist hauptsächlich durch das Gefühl gekennzeichnet, bei ansonsten unbehindertem Schluckakt einen Kloß im Hals zu haben und schlecht atmen zu können. Dieser Zustand wird in der medizinischen Fachsprache auch als Globusgefühl bezeichnet.

In der Regel ist das Schlucken von Speichel bzw. das leere Schlucken bei einem Globussyndrom schmerzhaft oder unangenehm, das Atmen wird als erschwert und anstrengend empfunden. Ein Zwang sich zu räuspern und geringfügige Stimmstörungen können ebenfalls bestehen.

Für die Abklärung körperlicher Ursachen ist eine Untersuchung der Luftröhre auf Fremdkörper sowie eine Röntgenuntersuchung anzuraten, sodass eine etwaige Osteochondrose der Halswirbelsäule und ein verlängerter Griffelfortsatz (lat. Processus styloideus) des Schläfenbeins mit einer daraus resultierenden Styalgie überprüft werden können. Mittels Ultraschalluntersuchung sollte geprüft werden, ob die Schilddrüse vergrößert ist (Struma).

Ebenfalls sollte bedacht werden, dass ein Rückfluss von Magensäure bei einer erosiven oder nichterosiven Refluxerkrankung diese Symptomatik bewirken kann.

Bei unklaren Schluckbeschwerden ist eine Röntgenkinematografie (Röntgenvideografie) - eine Ösophagusdarstellung - während des Schluckakts durchzuführen.

Nach Ausschluss organischer Gründe für das Globusgefühl ist an psychosomatische Ursachen wie z.B. Stress zu denken.
