Hidden Primary

Hidden Primary wird im Zusammenhang mit DNS verwendet, dem Domain Name System, über das sich Rechner im Internet adressieren.

Als Hidden Primary (versteckter, primärer Name-Server) bezeichnet man einen DNS-Server, der zwar als Quelle für DNS-Daten dient, jedoch nicht von DNS-Clients als Nameserver angesprochen werden kann. Die DNS-Informationen werden stattdessen von öffentlich erreichbaren DNS-Servern übernommen. Diese Vorgehensweise kann sinnvoll sein, wenn die Internetanbindung des Servers schmalbandig oder unzuverlässig ist bzw. kein DNS-Traffic auf der Verbindung erwünscht ist. Außerdem lässt sich mit dem Verfahren die Administration von Zonendateien delegieren.
