Kariba ist eine Stadt in Simbabwe. Sie liegt in der Provinz Mashonaland West nahe der großen Kariba-Talsperre am nordwestlichen Ende vom Kariba-See in dessen Mitte (Talweg) die Grenze zu Sambia verläuft. Der Ort Kariba ist zusammen mit der Talsperre ab 1955 entstanden. Nach der Bevölkerungszählung 1982 hatte Kariba 12.357 Einwohner, nach einem Zensus von 1992 20.736 Einwohner (inoffizielle Quellen sprechen von etwa 35.000 Einwohnern). Kariba ist das Zentrum des simbabwischen Tourismus in der Umgebung von Kariba-See und bietet Besuchern zahllose Unterkünfte, Spielbanken und Restaurants.

Tourismus

Der Tourismus ist eine wichtige Einnahmequelle für Kariba. Touristen kommen, um den nicht weit entfernten, künstlichen Kariba-See zu besuchen, der viele für europäische Ansprüche exotische Tiere beheimatet. Um den See und die Umgebung zu erkunden, wo zahlreiche Nationalparks liegen, bieten die Einwohner Rundfahrten, Mietboote und geführte Touren. Weitere typische Touristenziele ausgehend von Kariba - der Ort verfügt über einen gut ausgebauten Flughafen mit geteerter Landebahn - sind die zum Weltnaturerbe erklärten Victoriafälle und der Hwange National Park.
