Michael Gerard McKillop

Michael Gerard McKillop (* 27. Januar 1990 in Ballymena, Nordirland) ist ein irischer Leichtathlet.

McKillop, der Infantile Zerebralparese hat, nahm erstmals 2008 erstmals an den Paralympischen Spielen teil. Dort gewann er in der T37 Wertung der Männer auf 800 m die zweite Medaille für Irland bzw. die erste Goldmedaille für Irland. McKillop stellte hierbei mit einer Zeit von 1:59.39 einen neuen paralympischen Weltrekord auf und unterbot die alte, von ihm selbst aufgestellte, Bestmarke von 2006 um 2.74 Sekunden[1].

McKillop wird seit seinem zehnten Lebensjahr von seinem Vater Paddy McKillop trainiert. Dieser gewann 2008 den Titel Northern Ireland Sports Coach of the Year[2].
