Mohammed Atta (* ????) ist der Gouverneur der Provinz Balkh in Afghanistan.

Leben

Er wurde im Spätherbst 2004 von Staatspräsident Hamid Karzai von seinem Posten erhoben. Der tadschikische Atta steht in direktem Machtkampf mit dem usbekischen General Abdul Raschid Dostum. Die Spannungen zwischen Afghanistans größten ethnischen Gruppen der Paschtunen, Usbeken, und Tadschiken haben in der Vergangenheit immer wieder zu bewaffneten Auseinandersetzungen und politischen Konflikten geführt.
