Moundou ist eine Stadt im Süden des Tschad und Hauptstadt der Region Logone Occidental. Mit etwa 138.000 Einwohnern[1] ist sie die zweitgrößte Stadt des Landes.

Geographie

Moundou liegt am Fluss Logone. Die Stadt hat typisches afrikanisches Feuchtsavannenklima mit ganzjährigen Durchschnittstemperaturen um 25°C und mit einer Jahresniederschlagsmenge von 1250 mm bei einer Höhe von 420 m ü. M.

Wirtschaft

Die Stadt ist das wichtigste Industriezentrum des afrikanischen Staates. Wichtige Industrien sind Erdöl-, Baumwoll- sowie die Konsumgüter-Industrie. Moundou hat einen Internationalen Flughafen.

Seit 1959 ist die Stadt Sitz des gleichnamigen Bistums der Römisch-katholischen Kirche.
