NHK Symphony Orchestra

Das NHK-Sinfonieorchester (jap. NHK交響楽団 NHK Kōkyō Gakudan) in Tokio ist ein japanisches Sinfonieorchester. Es wurde als Neues Sinfonieorchester (新交響楽団, Shin Kōkyō Gakudan) am 5. Oktober 1926 gegründet und war damit Japans erstes professionelles Sinfonieorchester, gegründet von Konoe Hidemaro, der es auch bis 1935 leitete. Später wurde der Name in Japanisches Sinfonieorchester und 1951 im Gegenzug gegen finanzielle Unterstützung von NHK in den heutigen Namen geändert.

Vladimir Ashkenazy ist der musikalische Leiter, Charles Dutoit war sein Vorgänger. Wolfgang Sawallisch wurde als „Ehrendirigent“ geehrt.
