Octoxinol-9 (INN), auch Triton X-100, ist ein p-tert-Octylphenol-Derivat mit einer Polyethylenglykol-Seitenkette, aus 9–10 Ethylenoxid-Einheiten. Es ist ein nichtionisches Tensid aus der Gruppe der Octylphenolethoxylate.

Eigenschaften

Triton X-100 kann das Schmelzverhalten von DNA-Doppelsträngen verändern.

Verwendung

Triton X-100 findet als Detergens seine Anwendung in der Biochemie.[3][4][5] Da es Proteine im Gegensatz zu SDS nicht denaturiert, wird es benutzt, um Membranproteine in ihrer nativen Konformation aus Membranen herauszulösen.

Weiterhin wird es als Antihydrotikum (schweißhemmender Wirkstoff) verwendet.[6]
