Das Helmperlhuhn (Numida meleagris) ist der bekannteste Vertreter der Perlhuhnfamilie, und die einzige Art der Gattung Numida. Das ursprüngliche Verbreitungsgebiet ist Afrika, hauptsächlich südlich der Sahara, eingeführt wurde es in der Karibik und Südfrankreich.

Es bevorzugt warme, trockene und offene Lebensräume wie Savannen oder landwirtschaftlich genutzte Flächen. Das Gelege des Helmperlhuhns umfasst ca. 20 bis 30 Eier und wird von den Weibchen ca. 26 bis 28 Tage bebrütet. Das Helmperlhuhn wird in freier Natur bis zu 12 Jahre alt.

Der Gesamtbestand des Helmperlhuhns wird von der IUCN auf 1,0-2,5 Millionen Tiere geschätzt. Die Bestände scheinen stabil zu sein und die Art gilt als "nicht gefährdet".

Die domestizierte Form des Helmperlhuhns ist das Hausperlhuhn.
