Otatara ist eine Ortschaft im Westen von Invercargill im äußersten Süden der neuseeländischen Südinsel.

Die Ortschaft ist sehr weitläufig und erstreckt sich vom New River Estuary, einem Seitenarm des Pazifiks, im Osten bis zum Oreti River im Westen. Im Norden wird Otatara vom Flughafen Invercargill begrenzt. Der Ort hatte beim Zensus 2006 2.436 Einwohner (2006)[1].

Der Lebensstandard ist hoch und viele besser verdienende Familien haben hier ihr Haus. Arbeit, Schule so wie auch Einkauf allerdings finden größtenteils in Invercargill statt, das zwei bis drei Kilometer entfernt ist. In Otatara gibt es nur einen Supermarkt und eine Grundschule. Außerdem gibt es in Otatara einen größeren Golfplatz und das Oatara Reserve, ein sehr verwildertes und der Natur überlassenes Erholungsgebiet.
