Ein Process-Content-Management-System (PCMS) ist eine zentrale Server/Client-Funktion zum Erfassen und Bereitstellen von beliebigen Prozessdaten. Der Zugriff auf das PCMS erfolgt mit einem WEB-Browser.

Die Datenerfassung erfolgt üblicherweise über ein vom Internet getrennten Bussystem. Die Prozessdaten werden auf einem im PCMS integrierten Prozessleitsystem (PLS) zyklisch verarbeitet. Die gewünschten Auswertungen erfolgen übers Intranet (internes Firmennetzwerk) oder Internet und werden im HTML-Format bereitgestellt.

Sowohl die Datenerfassung (Betriebsdatenerfassung BDE, Maschinendatenerfassung MDE, Manufacturing Execution System MES) als auch die Bereitstellung der Prozessdaten ist jederzeit aktuell und kann mit jedem beliebigen Bediengerät – PC, Mobiltelefon, Personal Digital Assistant, Display – welches mit einem Webbrowser ausgerüstet ist bearbeitet werden. Im Unterschied zu einem Content-Management-System (CMS) werden bei einem PCMS die Daten automatisch erfasst und müssen nicht mit einem Editor ins System übertragen werden.
