Pacifica (Computer)

Die AMD Virtualization oder kurz AMD-V (auch unter dem Codenamen Pacifica bekannt) ist eine Technik zur Virtualisierung eines Computers und bezeichnet AMDs Implementierung einer Secure Virtual Machine im Zusammenspiel mit einer IOMMU.

AMD vergibt dabei die Lizenzen zur Anwendung der Technik kostenlos an alle interessierten Unternehmen, um für eine breite Akzeptanz dieser Technologie zu sorgen. Anbieter von Virtualisierungssoftware wie VMware, VirtualBox, Xen oder Microsoft haben bereits ihre Unterstützung für AMD-V angekündigt und entsprechende Produkte auf den Markt gebracht.

AMD-V ist seit Juni 2006 Bestandteil der Athlon-64-Prozessoren (nur Sockel AM2 und Sockel AM2+), der Turion-64-Prozessoren (nur Sockel S1), der Opteron-Prozessoren (Sockel AM2 und Sockel F) und der Phenom-Prozessoren. Die Unterstützung von AMD-V kann vom Betriebssystem am Prozessorflag svm erkannt werden[1], unter Linuxbetriebssystem z. B. in der Datei /proc/cpuinfo.

Bedeutung für TPM

In Verbindung mit Presidio wird eine Konformität zum TPM-Modell angestrebt. Die beiden Technologien können dann eng zur Abbildung eines Kopierschutzes für Software verwendet werden.
