Passing Play

Passing Play (engl. Passspielzug) ist im American Football eine von zwei Möglichkeiten, Raum zu gewinnen (die andere ist das Running Play / Laufspielzug).

Bei einem Passing Play laufen die Wide Receiver (Passempfänger) so genannte Passrouten. Der Quarterback läuft ein paar Schritte rückwärts und sucht sich dann einen Passempfänger aus, zu dem er den Ball wirft. Der Empfänger versucht den Ball zu fangen und wenn möglich weiter zu tragen. Der Passverteidiger der gegnerischen Defense (ein Cornerback, Linebacker oder Safety) deckt den Receiver und versucht den Ball abzufangen (Interception) oder abzublocken. Gelingt ihm eine Interception darf er den Ball soweit wie möglich zurücktragen und sein Team kommt in Ballbesitz.

Durch einen guten Pass kann man ca. 30 Yards gewinnen. Normal sind zwischen 5 und 20 Yards.
