Sie war tscherkessischen Ursprungs. 1829 kam sie in den Harem von Mahmud II. Am 25. Juni 1861 wurde sie mit der Thronbesteigung ihres Sohnes Valide Sultan. Eine Schule und eine Moschee wurden nach ihr benannt.
