Philip Morris International Inc. ist einer der größten Hersteller von Tabakprodukten. Unternehmenssitz ist New York in den Vereinigten Staaten. Das Unternehmen wurde Ende März 2008 durch einen Spin off vom bisherigen Mutterkonzern Altria Group herausgelöst.
Geschichte
Seit der Gründung im 19. Jahrhundert hat sich das Unternehmen zu einem Weltkonzern entwickelt. Philip Morris war in London ansässig und hatte einen kleinen Zigarettenverkaufsstand mit seiner eigenen Marke (Philip Morris). Er brachte Kutscher dazu, Gäste, die nach Zigaretten fragten, zu ihm zu fahren, indem er ihnen Geld dafür gab. Seine Erben wählten als neuen Hauptsitz New York.
Philip Morris ist nach China National Tobacco Co. der größte Tabakhersteller der Welt. Heute beschäftigt Philip Morris International ca. 60.000 Mitarbeiter. Die Schwestergesellschaft Philip Morris USA, das führende US-amerikanische Tabakunternehmen, beschäftigt weitere 11.000 Mitarbeiter.
