Die Funktion Bild im Bild (BiB, oder PIP für engl. Picture in Picture) ermöglicht es, während des laufenden Fernsehprogrammes eines bestimmten Senders oder während des Schauens eines Video- oder DVD-Filmes in einem kleinem Vorschaubild auf einen anderen Fernsehkanal umzuschalten ohne das laufende Programm oder den Film unterbrechen zu müssen. Um das zweite Bild darzustellen, ist entweder eine zweite AV-Quelle (AV-PIP) oder ein zweiter Tuner (2-Tuner-PIP) notwendig. Verwendung findet das System vor allem bei Fernsehgeräten, aber auch bei digitalen Satelliten-Receivern mit Doppeltuner, digitalen TV-Karten und bei interaktiven Fähigkeiten der HD-Medien, wie der Blu-ray Disc.

Mithilfe von Bild im Bild kann somit die Werbung übersprungen werden, in dem man auf ein Alternativprogramm wechselt und im kleinen Vorschaufenster das ursprüngliche Programm laufen lässt. Inzwischen kann das aber mit Hilfe von zeitversetztem Fernsehen umgangen werden.
