Piping

Piping (Röhrenbildung) ist eine Form der inneren Erosion. Dabei entstehen röhrenartige Kanäle in Staudämmen, Deichen oder ähnlichen Bauwerken aus Erdschüttmaterial (Sand, Erde, Ton), die bis zum Versagen führen können.

Durch einen eingestauten Damm sickern ständig geringe Mengen von Sickerwasser. Wird es zu stark, können Bodenpartikel mitgerissen werden. Die Erosion beginnt an einer Leckstelle an der Luftseite. Das drückende und fließende Wasser spült das Material immer mehr aus. Es kommt zur rückschreitenden Erosion und zur Vergrößerung der Röhre. Erreicht die Röhre die Wasserseite, strömt das Wasser ungehindert durch und spült den ganzen Damm weg.
