Artikulationsarten Pulmonal-egressive Laute Nichtpulmonische Laute Plosiv (auch Plosivlaut, Explosiv[laut]) werden die Konsonanten genannt, bei deren Artikulation der Atemluftstrom vollkommen blockiert wird; durch die sofort darauf folgende Wiederfreisetzung des gestauten Luftstromes entsteht eine kleine „Explosion“, die den Klang erzeugt. Die Benennung erfolgt also nach der Artikulationsart.
In älterer Literatur ist noch die Bezeichnung Explosiv(laut) statt Plosiv anzutreffen. Letztere geht auf den englischen Einfluss zurück. Die traditionellen Bezeichnungen sind dennoch weiterhin gebräuchlich.
