Poljarny (russisch Поля́рный, dt. Katharinenhafen, bis 1939 Alexandrowsk) ist eine geschlossene Stadt in der Oblast Murmansk, Russland. Poljarny hat rund 16.800 Einwohner (Stand 2007).

Geschichte

Gegründet wurde die Stadt 1896 als Hafenstadt namens Alexandrowsk zu Ehren des Zaren Alexander III. Diesen Namen behielt sie bis 1939.

In Poljarny befindet sich die staatliche Russische Schiffswerft Nummer 10 Schkwal, welche u.a. für die Herstellung von nuklearbetriebenen U-Booten verantwortlich war. Heute liegen in Poljarny eine Reihe von nicht mehr fahrtüchtigen Schiffe und U-Booten (u.a. auch Fahrzeuge mit Nuklearantrieb) der russischen Nordflotte, die nach dem Ende des kalten Krieges außer Dienst gestellt wurden.
