Preprint

Als Preprints (englisch: vor dem Druck) bezeichnet man Vorabdrucke oder als Kopie weitergegebene Versionen von Artikeln wissenschaftlicher Fachzeitschriften oder von Buchbeiträgen, die zur Veröffentlichung vorgesehen sind, um Fehler zu vermeiden. Preprints haben (noch) kein peer-review Verfahren durchlaufen, d.h. es handelt sich hierbei um nicht begutachtete Arbeiten. Das Nutzungsrecht liegt daher in der Regel noch beim Autor.

Handelt es sich um digitale Texte, spricht man von Eprints, wobei man als Eprints auch die Postprints bezeichnet, die den publizierten Text umfassen. Inzwischen werden Preprints in den Naturwissenschaften vor allem über Dokumentenserver wie ArXiv verbreitet.
