Putaruru ist eine Kleinstadt in der Region Waikoto auf der Nordinsel Neuseelands. Sie liegt ca. 65 km südöstlich von Hamilton im South-Waikato-Distrikt. 2006 hatte der Ort 3765 Einwohner.

Der State Highway 1 durchquert die Ortschaft. Die Ökonomie basiert auf Land- und Forstwirtschaft sowie einer Mineralwasserquelle, die 60 % des neuseeländischen Bedarfs deckt.

Aus Putaruru stammen die Langstreckenläuferin Lorraine Moller und die Schauspielerin Sarah McLeod.
