Als Radio Network Subsystem, kurz RNS, wird ein Radio Network Controller (RNC) mit dem an ihm angeschlossenen Node Bs (Basisstationen), bezeichnet.

Die komplette Systemstruktur des UMTS-Netzwerkes, also die Verbindung mehrerer RNS untereinander und mit dem Core Network, wird als UTRAN bezeichnet.
