Die Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, zu deutsch Australischer Sicherheits- und Informationsdienst (Abk. ASIO), Australiens nationaler Geheimdienst, ist (in Zusammenarbeit mit der Australischen Bundespolizei) verantwortlich für die Abwehr von Spionage durch ausländische Mächte und die Überwachung und Abwehr von terroristischer und anderer politischer Gewalt. Sie ist in etwa vergleichbar mit dem Britischen Geheimdienst MI5.
Vor allem in der politischen Literatur wird die ASIO aufgrund hoher Geheimhaltung oft als Australian Secret Intelligence Organisation (Australischer Geheimdienst) bezeichnet.
Gegründet wurde die ASIO 1949. Sie wurde in den 1950er Jahren durch die Petrov-Affäre bekannt. Während den 1960er Jahren überwachte sie wie andere westliche Geheimdienste die Aktivitäten der Gegner des Vietnamkrieges und anderen politisch Linken, die teilweise unberechtigterweise von der ASIO als Spione der damaligen Sowjetunion eingestuft wurden.
Das Misstrauen, das die Australian Labor Party (ALP) von jeher der ASIO gegenüber hat, führte 1972 nach dem Wahlsieg der ALP zu einen "Überfall" auf die ASIO-Büros unter Führung des neuen Generalstaatsanwalt Lionel Murphy.
