Automotive

Automotive ist ein Oberbegriff für alle Fahrzeuge, gleichgültig, ob spurgeführt oder nicht, die von Kraftmaschinen angetrieben werden. Oftmals wird Automotive mit Automobil gleichgesetzt. Das ist jedoch nicht richtig. Die Zuliefer-Industrie der Automotive-Branche beliefert die Automobil- und Bahnindustrie, den Schiffbau sowie die Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie.

Da für den Massenmarkt der Automobilfertigung spezielle Anforderungen zu erfüllen sind (bei gleichzeitig großem Umsatzziel), werden häufig spezielle Automotive-Unternehmen als Spin-Off (Ableger) zu den bestehenden Unternehmungen gegründet oder als weitestgehend eigenständige Abteilung innerhalb eines Unternehmens etabliert.

In einigen Regionen haben sich die Zulieferer der Automotive-Branche zu Netzwerken zusammengeschlossen.

Der Begriff Automotive wird erst seit den letzten Jahrzehnten des 20. Jahrhunderts verwendet.
