R.U.R. – Rossum's Universal Robots (tschechisch Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti) ist der Titel eines 1921 erschienenen Dramas des tschechischen Schriftstellers Karel Čapek.
Es handelt von einer Firma, welche menschenähnliche Maschinen (Humanoide Roboter) herstellt, um den Menschen die Arbeit zu erleichtern. Im späteren Verlauf starten diese Maschinen den Umbruch der Gesellschaft und vernichten die Menschheit.
Der Name des Stücks R.U.R steht für Rossums Universal-Roboter, die Firma, die im Stück diese Maschinen baut. Der Name Rossum ist eine ironische Anspielung des Autors: das tschechische Wort rozum (ausgesprochen wie 'rosumm', jedoch mit kurzer ersten Silbe) bedeutet Vernunft, Verstand.
Das Wort „Roboter“ (oder robot, in der ursprünglichen tschechischen Form, vgl. Englisch) gelangte aus diesem Stück bald in die Alltagssprache vieler Länder, der Urheber dieser Wortschöpfung ist aber Karels Bruder Josef Čapek, der 1917 auch das neue Wort Automat bereits verwendete.
In dem Drama klingt die mit Prag verbundene jüdische Legende vom Golem an.
