Alex Salmond

Alexander Elliot Anderson Salmond (* 31. Dezember 1954 in Linlithgow, Schottland) ist Erster Minister (Ministerpräsident) von Schottland.

Er wuchs in einer Beamtenfamilie mit breitem politischem Spektrum auf, die Mutter verehrte Winston Churchill, der Vater bewunderte Josef Stalin.[1] Salmond studierte Volkswirtschaftslehre und Geschichte an der Universität St Andrews. Seit 1987 ist er Abgeordneter im britischen Unterhaus. Von 1990 bis 2000, sowie seit 2004 ist er Vorsitzender der Scottish National Party (SNP). Er war der Spitzenkandidat der SNP in den Schottischen Parlamentswahlen 1999 und 2007.

Nach dem Wahlsieg der SNP wählte ihn das schottische Parlament am 16. Mai 2007 zum Ersten Minister.
