Unter gutturalem Gesang versteht man den Kehlgesang, der durch den Einsatz von (teilw. verzerrtem) Krächzen, Grunzen und Knurren („Grunting“ und „Growling“), klarem Rufen („Shouting“) oder hohem Schreien bzw. Kreischen („Screaming“) erzeugt wird.

Anwendung findet der gutturale Gesang vorzugsweise in Teilen der Metal-Szene (Thrash-, Death- oder Black Metal, aber auch beim Metalcore), im Grindcore-Umfeld, sowie im Industrial-, EBM- und Dark-Electro-Bereich.
