Mongane Wally Serote (* 1944 in Sophiatown, Südafrika) ist ein südafrikanischer Schriftsteller und Dichter

Leben

Er war von 1974 bis 1979 in den USA wo er an der Columbia University studierte. Nach einer kurzen Rückkehr nach Südafrika begab er sich freiwillig ins Exil nach Botswana, wo er für den ANC tätig wurde. 1980 erhielt er den Preis als bester südafrikischer Schriftsteller, 1983-86 war er Head of the Department of Arts and Culture des ANC. 1986-90 war er Kulturattache für Großbritannien und Europa, ehe er nach 17 Jahren Exil nach Südafrika zurückkehrte.
