Sir Somerset Arthur Gough-Calthorpe (1865–1937), auch bekannt als Sir Somerset Calthorpe, war Admiral der königlich-britischen Marine.
Leben
Calthorpe wurde 1911 zum Konteradmiral befördert und kommandierte das 2. Schlachtkreuzer-Geschwader zum Zeitpunkt des Ausbruches des Ersten Weltkrieges. Er diente in der Grand Fleet unter Sir John Jellicoe bis zum Mai 1916, als er im Rang eines Zweiten Seelords zur Admiralität versetzt wurde. Calthorpes Nachfolger, Konteradmiral Hood, kam in der Schlacht von Jütland ums Leben, als die HMS Invincible mit fast der gesamten Besatzung versenkt wurde.
Calthorpe diente in der Admiralität bis zum Dezember 1916. Danach wurde er von den neuen Amtsinhabern Erster Lord der Admiralität Sir Edward Carson und Erster Seelord Sir John Jellicoe in das Kommando der Reserveflotte versetzt. Im Juli 1917 wurde Calthorpe das Kommando über die Mittelmeerflotte als Nachfolger von Sir Rosslyn Wemyss, der vom neuen Ersten Lord Eric Campbell Geddes zurückbeordert wurde, übertragen.
In der Nachkriegszeit diente Calthorpe als Britischer Kommissar im Osmanischen Reich von 1918-1919, und danach als Oberbefehlshaber in Portsmouth bis 1923.
