Die Universität für Finanzwesen Südwestchinas ging als Universität aus dem Wirtschaftsinstitut der Sichuan Universität hervor. Sie liegt außerhalb der 2ten westlichen Ringstrasse und ist eine der drei Schlüsseluniversitäten in Chengdu, die direkt dem chinesischen Erziehungsministerium in Peking unterstehen.
Neben Wirtschafts- und Finanzrelevaten Studiengängen gibt es noch Jura, Politik und andere Fächer.
