Spyaxe ist eine sog. unerwünschte Adware, stets vergesellschaftet mit weiteren Virusprogrammen. Von vielen Internetusern wird es auch als Virus bezeichnet, was aber eine falsche Bezeichnung ist. Mit einem ausgeklügelten Infektionsweg verschafft sich dieses Programm Zugang zum Internetuser. Es benutzt den Sympathie-Trick, wie auch der bekannte "I love you"-Virus. Spyaxe tarnt sich als Hilfeangebot.

Wenn ein von Spyaxe infiziertes Bild angeklickt wird, erscheint beispielsweise als Hilfeangebot eine Warnmeldung, dass gerade in diesem Moment ein Spionageprogramm auf den PC gelangt sei. Als Hilfe wird dann der PC-User aufgefordert, sofort ein sog. Virushilfeprogramm zu laden, um das angebliche Problem zu beheben. Aber gerade dadurch gelangt erst diese aggressive Adware auf den PC.

Auf dem Bildschirm erscheinen ständig nicht entfernbare Pop-ups.
