Das Global Network of Dreams (GNOD) ist eine Web-Entwicklung für eine inhaltsorientierte Grafische Benutzeroberfläche von Datenbanken in Form einer selbstorganisierenden Karte. Bezogen auf die Datenbankinhalte Bücher und Film ist GNOD für den Benutzer entweder ein Empfehlungssystem oder eine Wissenskarte, bei der die Richtungen der Kartierung inhaltliche Tendenzen und Benutzervorlieben durch eine Literaturlandkarte oder Filmlandkarte darstellen.
Wird beispielsweise Haruki Murakami in die Suchmaske der Literaturlandkarte eingegeben, so wird das gesamte Kartenfeld auf diesen Autor zentriert. Die sich allmählich aufbauende Karte visualisiert dann dessen literarische Positionierung als Nähe oder Ferne oder als Tendenz z.B. im Verhältnis zu Jorge Luis Borges und sämtlichen Autoren, die diesem wiederum literarisch nahe stehen.
Dementsprechend bildet sich um den Film Gladiator eine Filmlandkarte mit dem nahestehenden Film Braveheart.
Die Anfrageergebnisse stellen ähnlich wie Mindmaps und Topic Maps ein visuelles Hilfsmittel zur bedeutungsorientierten Navigation in den Datenbeständen der angeschlossenen Datenbanken für Filmtitel und Buchautoren dar.
Die Musikdatenbak von GNOD ist dagegen stärker als Empfehlungssystem ausgebaut.
