Ein Marlin„Der alte Mann und das Meer“ ist eine Novelle von Ernest Hemingway. Sie wurde 1951 auf Kuba geschrieben und im Jahr 1952 unter dem englischen Titel The Old Man and the Sea veröffentlicht. Die Novelle ist das letzte Werk des Autors, das zu seinen Lebzeiten veröffentlicht wurde, und sein bekanntestes Werk überhaupt. Im Zentrum der Handlung steht ein kubanischer Fischer namens Santiago, der mit einem gigantischen Marlin ringt. Obwohl das Werk Gegenstand einer harten Kritik war, gilt es als eines der bedeutsamsten Werke in der Literatur des 20. Jahrhunderts. Der alte Mann und das Meer bestätigte noch einmal Hemingways Bedeutung für die Weltliteratur und trug dazu bei, dass ihm 1954 der Nobelpreis für Literatur verliehen wurde.
